I’ve had a good morning - chatting to the people at the New Renew Project “Chop Shop” in the Market Square and to the guy who owns Pacific Dreams in Darby Street.

On the way back…I saw this pinned up at Greater Union. They’ve applied for a liquor licence. About Time. The upstairs and downstairs foyers are cavernous and only populated by a few ancient video games that don’t even have retro value. (OK. So the air hockey has retro value, but would probably give you Legionnaire’s disease). Serving alcohol and coffee would be a good use for the space.

The manager, Garth, has done much to move the cinema onto the art house theatre track. The Newcastle Film Society is always active - the Theatre is doing historical film screenings and there’s a film festival almost every week now.

And I hear that new seats are going in this year.
